Someone sends me a link that opens up IE…then I have to go through about 20 dialog boxes asking me f I can allow Adobe Flash to run.  Uhmmmm…isn’t this a pretty basic piece of software that I installed, have run several times in the past, and now I want to run.  I have to sit there and click 20 times to even watch a YouTube video.  If I open something new on my mac it asks me if I want to run it or not since its the first time…I say yes.  Thats it…not a million little boxes asking me the same thing I already said I wanted to do.  This is the worst security model I have ever seen in my life…ever!

The main reason why this “security” feature is horrible has to do with the fact that it can be turned off really easily.  Hmmmmm.  Wait.  Doesn’t that take away the security.  You just go your user settings and turn off UAC…well…now…that was easy to break now wasn’t it.  Now I am open to attacks.  Basically this security model just became pointless really, really, really fast.  Why even turn on in the first, ya know.

That’s not all my little rant can say about Windows either.  I used to use a great little IM client called AdiumX.  Which I still run at home and has a ton of awesome features.  Its open source and free to download.  The software has some solid developers behind it as well.  I looked for a multi-IM client for my Vista and I found Trillian.  I love tabbed chatting.  Makes it easy to manage everything.  Trillian had what I needed.  I went for it.

I installed Trillian and it was easy as pie.  That made me happy…until I started chatting.  It went all downhill after that.  I had all of these chat windows open up on me as people began to message me.  Then I realized I should turn on tabbed windows like I did in AdiumX.  It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how this is done.  Well…let’s just say another developer truly failed in their implementation.  I know some people will say they had  a logic to the way it is done…but…it isn’t practical.

Instead of just giving a preference to tell Trillian how I wanted to have new chats open in the client…instead it just says this how it is no matter how dumb it is.  I have my Buddy List sorted by different things…friends, work, etc…and when someone from one of those IM’s me…it opens it in “containers” associated with that grouping.  So if someone from Friends IM’s me…then someone from Work…etc…I get 3 windows…not 1.  Isn’t that what tabbed is suppose to mean is that they give me one window with multiple tabs?  ya…thats what I thought too…but I was way wrong.

In order for me to get them all into one window I have to right click on the icon bar on top of the window…don’t go to high or it won’t work…its not in the menu bar…but the icon bar.  Then go down to attach and then pick whatever container you want it to attach to.

When I have all these windows opening up I have to do this constantly since they are from different “containers”.  I get an IM, and then I spend another couple of minutes sorting everything out.  Nope…FAIL!

If they actually gave me an option to choose how I wanted this to act I would be much more pleased.  Since the initial implementation for this is the worst I have ever seen.  Why do certain developers take some good ideas and flush them down the drain.

Now I would just use Microsoft’s messenger, but then it would take up about twice the real estate it needs to.  Along with that I would be vulnerable to more virus’s and more attack…AAAHHHHH!!!!

Its times like these that I miss my mac.  I miss developers that actually have a sense in logic or listen to their users.  Now I know there are plenty of mac developers, Apple included, who don’t listen to anyone.  They go away pretty fast…unless your adobe of course.  I just don’t see why people thinks any of this is good.

I was one of those people who went from Windows 95 to Mac OS 9.  So I didn’t start out as a mac guy.  Then X came out and changed everything.  They really hit the nail on the head with usability there.  Now with Leopard they just upped the ante.  Too bad Vista took us back so far.

I do not think that the NFL is anyway better or worse than Comcast.  I personally feel that the NFL has done a lot to harm their image in the past few years more than anyone ever could.  Also, I do not agree with their broadcast blackouts…I think they are stupid and ruin it for a lot of people.  People who would like to see the biggest game of the week are instead treated to something not worth watching…I’m looking at you Houston…sad you missed that Pats/Colts game I bet.

Now onto my rant:

I heard about this cease and desist letter that comcast sent to the NFL over the weekend about the Cowboys/Packers game not being available everywhere.  Now that it has become a must watch game this Thursday…they are all mad cause they screwed themselves by the way they price the NFL network.  What did you expect in a situation like this.  You don’t allow consumers to really choose the channels they want, but when you want to enrich yourself…you get screwed.  Maybe you should go A La Carte…then maybe more people would choose the NFL channel instead of having to get it with their “sports tier.”  I switched to DirecTV years ago and am not looking back at Comcast for any reason.  I also subscribe to the NFL package that I watch religiously every Sunday.  If I could get an A La Carte from Comcast and not from DirecTV…I would consider going back.  Maybe this is what they need…it seems like consumers are asking desperately for it.

Hearing Comcast cry foul just makes me sick in general.  They block all P2P traffic and lessen the consumers choice in many instances.  Now they are saying it the NFL’s fault for doing this to them…which makes even less sense to me.  They are just trying to get around the NFL because they now know how badly they screwed up.  They thought everyone would climb onto that Sports Tier just to watch 8 games a year on Comcast.  What did you expect? Of course no one did.  It isn’t worth it to them.  They not only get the NFL channe, but about 5 other Channels they will never watch.

Quit your crying Comcast…try to find another solution…like what the NFL wanted and be added as a regular channel.

I am pretty excited on the other hand to have a new place to go to everyday.  The drive down to orem is not something that I look forward too, but it will be worth it in the end.  I wouldn’t mind putting in a good 4 years down there then finding a new higher paying place.  I know once I attach a certain title to my name…I’ll be golden.

Its going to suck cause I am going to have to put in a full day from now on.  None of this getting here whenever and leaving whenever crap anymore.  I’m more nervous to talk to my boss more than anything…I don’t want to ruin her day.  Ugh…this is stressin me out already.

First things first…Pathfinder is awesome when you need some of those power tweaks or commands right there in the Finder.  I can easily do little things that I couldn’t normally do without opening a terminal window.

There was one downside to using Pathfinder that I have found so far.  The file size counts are really off.  I would put 5 gig worth of data into a folder and it says its 2.1 gig.  I thought I would double check this in the actual Finder…it says the correct size.  Which one do I believe…so I found another way of checking the file size.  I used Burn to check how big the files I have would be if I put the on a disc.  It says the same thing.

This isns’t something isolated to this one folder as well.  I would check multiple folders and I would get this kind of discrepancy.

I am choosing to abandon Pathfinder till they fix these issues.

There was once a time when LT was a very happy person…now he is one of the saddest looking players in the NFL. Whenever you see him at press conferences or talking in the licker room…you see him…very sad. What has happened to this man who was once one of the happiest people in the NFL. I’ll tell you what happened…Norv Turner.

it seems that he has been able to turn this mad into a very distraught human being. Now if Mike Tomlin had come into Pittsburgh and done this to Heinz Ward I would be equally just as upset. You see these players who tend to always have a smile on their face…it helps you enjoy the game. Mainly you know they are having fun playing it…why not have fun watching it too. Plus, its hard not to smile when Heinz Ward’s smile is visible behind his helmet. This used to be the case was LT.

I feel bad that the game got ruined for him. I feel bad that he doesn’t walk into a game with the same confidence in him he once had. It doesn’t seem like its him or age that is the problem. Its the attitude they have when they approach a game…they just aren’t happy.

I do have to say that so far things are going much better than they usually do. I can watch a YouTube video without it going all flaky on me when I am doing other things in the background. We’ll see how everything goes from here on out.

Its annoying me at the moment.  At least I have another interview with another place tomorrow.  The potential for that job is about the same.  I am pretty sure that I can get it…without even thinking about it.

This is why I want to move on…I want to wake back up and get excited once again.  I’ve interviewed with a few people, but nothing has come back just yet.  I know where I am lacking in experience, but I can’t get it unless I get a new job.  I’m kind of locked into being a Mac person right now, but no one wants to hire those kind of people in this world.

Its been really frustrating cause I am not an idiot and I know how to do a lot of things.  I just need a quick refresher course on some things and I am back up to speed. If I don’t get this latest job I applied and interviewed for…I am going to go and spend some money to get some certifications under my belt.  Then maybe I can get a new job.

A prime example of this is Quark and its QuarkXpress product.  Several years ago, I think it was version 2, they had the best way to layout fractions into a document.  Then version 3 came to light and all of a sudden I hear a roar from my users telling me that its gone.  They took out one of their best features from a product that users love…but have they replaced it???  Nope…still not there and we are on Version 7 now.

This happens all the time when I get a new software product or research something for someone.  I see how much hatred they have toward the user.  They just want to lock you into a product.  They want to steal your data and then force you into something forever.  There are plenty of companies that are guilty of this.  Even Apple with some its free software it gives away.

It would be nice if developers would really start to listen to its users to see what they actually want something to do.  Many times you see products come about that have no problem to solve, but they did it anyway.

Most of my ideas for improving software come from listening to what the users in my area are complaining about or what they want to get done.  I write a ton of scripts that address various problems that they encounter on a daily basis.

All I want is my data…its me…its mine…not yours!

Dogs are animals that need attention…they thrive on it.  They need that reassurance that they are still in the pack.  That you need them there.  From my experience they are very insecure animals.  This is what pack behavior does to them.  When they get less and less attention from you…they freak out.

When I watch Cesar and see what he does; I realize how simple his solutions really are.  You see how he places them back into the pack structure and tells you how important excersize is to them.  They are a lot like humans in that aspect.  Its amazing how much better you feel when you get a little workout now and again.  People thing dog training is hard when their pets don’t listen to them…then they think they need to change the dog’s behavior.  Like I said, dogs are pack animals…they live off of what is going on around them.

I notice how my dog reacts when I am training her versus how she acts when I get lazy and don’t get her to do things.  She is a much happier dog and lot less of a pain when I really get her mind going.  People get intelligent dogs, then wonder why they are misbehaving.  Its because they are so bored with just playing catch all the time that they find other ways to entertain themselves.  I know within about 10 minutes of playing catch my dog gets bored.  She’s not that kind of a dog.  She is a working dog…she’d rather herd things than chase after a ball.  Sometimes I wish I had a ranch so she could realize her full potential.

Yes, I did have the dream dog that would actually grab beers out of the fridge for me during football…then she realized I also had lunchmeat in the fridge too.  She doesn’t get beer out of the fridge anymore…and she can’t get into the fridge anymore.
